How do I schedule an appointment? The first step to getting started is to book a free 15-minute initial consultation. Be sure to read the rest of this FAQ and then click here to schedule your appointment.
-
I don't live in Maryland, DC or Virginia. Can I still be a client?Desirée is licensed in the states of Maryland and Virginia, including Washington, DC. You must physically reside in or travel to one of those states to receive services.
-
How often will we meet?We will meet with you at minimum once per week at a time that is reserved solely for you. Weekly sessions are most effective for building a strong therapeutic relationship and making consistent progress towards your treatment goals. We may consider stepping down to less frequent sessions later on in treatment.
-
How long are sessions?Therapy, lactation and herbal sessions are between 45 - 60 minutes. Case consultations and supervision are a minimum of 60 minutes. We do not offer group therapy at this time.
-
What can I expect in my first therapy session? In your first therapy session, you can expect your therapist to create a safe and supportive environment where you can freely discuss your concerns and goals. Your therapist will likely ask you questions to understand your background, current challenges, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. They will explain their approach, the therapeutic process, and answer any questions you may have.
-
What is your cancellation policy? All sessions must be cancelled within 24 hours, if not, you will be charged a fee of $75.
-
Do you accept children as clients? We do not currently accept children as clients. Clients must be over 18 years of age, unless they are pregnant, postpartum or have experienced pregnancy loss, including abortion.
-
What will happen if we run into each other in public? As a member of certain overlapping communities, it is sometimes possible for a therapist to run into a client in public or at social events. Your therapist will make a point to never acknowledge a client first in order to help them avoid other people’s questions about how you may know them and your therapist will only make brief, light conversation if a client approaches. We will never bring up therapeutic details in public and ask clients to do the same.
-
Can I add you on social media? We do not knowingly connect with clients on any social networks as this would potentially compromise a client’s confidentiality, as well as each of our individual privacy. Please remember that the world of social media offers little guarantee of privacy; even searching a person’s name may expose them and you to other mutual connections who you do not want having certain private information.
