Welcome to the Sankofa Uzima Practicum Program, where we embrace the wisdom of the past to shape a healthier, more just future in mental health. Inspired by the Akan concept of Sankofa—"to return and get it"— our program is dedicated to reclaiming traditional knowledge, honoring the lived experiences of the global majority, and fostering a deeper understanding of reproductive justice for optimal uzima - wellbeing, wholeness + vitality!

Our curriculum is deeply informed by African-centered philosophies and the principles of reproductive justice with abolition and liberatory frameworks. We provide a comprehensive education that connects historical context with present-day practice, ensuring that our interns are well-rounded, culturally aware professionals.

We foster a supportive environment where interns are guided by an experienced mentor with access to leaders in reproductive justice and mental health. Our community of practice is built on the values of collective care, mutual respect, and shared growth. There is no hiearchy here, we are peers and colleagues in this work.
